Creating a Wave of Peace with the Global Consciousness Project & HeartMath

We are thrilled to announce that MOMM, HeartMath and the Global Consciousness Project, run by Roger Nelson at Princeton University will be collaborating on the 21st September 2019, as we create our global Peace Wave for International Peace Day.

The Global Consciousness Project is an international, multidisciplinary collaboration of scientists and engineers, who collect data continuously from a global network of physical random number generators located in upto 70 host sites around the world at any given time. On 21st September they will be observing the degree to which our collective coherent fields can facilitate patterns as they evolve from chaos to coherence.

Once again The HeartMath Institute are providing the Global Coherence app to support the Peace Day MOMM, where we can accurately measure the number of people taking part in each nation, and also measure the group coherence of hundreds if not thousands of people meditating while using their Inner Balance devices.

The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on 21 September. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution 36/37, the General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.”

Please join us and join in to create a wave of peace as you co-create your Moments of Mass Mindfulness at 12 midday across the world in your local time-zones for International Peace Day.

The Little Breathing Space

In 2012 I was living in Australia, I was a high-achiever, a senior manager working across UK, Europe, and Asia. My life was fairly symptomatic of a modern woman: a time-pressured single working mother. Life felt really demanding, I spent a lot of time trying to please a lot of people and yet often still end up simply feeling anxious, guilty, inadequate, tired and overwhelmed with it all. I’d been brought up to conform. To play it safe.  To say Yes, despite my inner voice screaming NO.

I suffered a burnout, a slow draining of any remaining joy from my life. Negativity took hold and I didn’t see joy in even the significant things.

So how did I turn around? It was small steps initially.  A chance encounter with a wonderful lady led me to mindfulness. I enrolled on an 8- week mindfulness program. I realised that to really thrive in my life I needed to slow down, to take responsibility for my choices and actions in life, rather than feeling like a victim to my life. I needed to learn how to say no to those things and people that didn’t align to what brings joy, meaning and purpose to my life. I needed to find some self-compassion and practice self-care!  And following a retreat at the Vijayaloka Triratna centre with Vidyamala Burch I was introduced to a new dimension of mindfulness, that ‘Mindfulness is Love’, which for has become the underlying mantra of my work.

In 2013 I embarked on extensive training with Breathworks Mindfulness and in 2017 on returning home to Sweden I established The Little Breathing Spaceto help others find a way to cope with stresses of modern life.

I run workshops, retreats as well as coaching individuals bringing a blend of knowledge gained from personal experience of anxiety and burnout and a professional background in neuroscience, mindfulness, compassion, and Yoga Nidra.

Mindfulness can help us to focus and let in the goodness which is all around us. And to practice acceptance and learn from the challenges that will always come with being a human being. Mindfulness teaches us that we can have perspective, resilience and choice and in so doing we can thrive.  I have a passion for seeing people develop their capacity to positively change situations in their lives that need changing. Learning to give themselves time and space to calm down, reflect, and act with compassion so that their innate emotional intelligence shines through.

As a speaker and author of the bestseller The Mindful Menopause, I am on a mission to help women develop a ‘mind over menopause’ mindset so that they can release the physical, mental and emotional suffering and transition this journey with greater ease and grace.

As a fellow of the RSA and member of RSA’s Mindful Living Network I believe passionately that mindfulness can be a powerful force for social change, building bridges in our divided world, which is a driver for actively participating in MOMM. Also, I am partnering with several women’s organizations in my hometown of Gothenburg to support greater integration of refugee women from a ‘Mindfulness Across Borders’ approach.

Meditation is an essential component of my return to wellbeing. And it is an honour to share this skill with others as a force for good in our world

Gloria is a Holistic Health & Wellness Coach based in Leeds. She supports people who want to improve their physical and emotional health and become empowered in making the most of their lives. She uses tools that have helped her and her family including Homeopathy, PSYCH-K® and lifestyle advice.

In 2018 Gloria became a Podcaster on a new podcast called Sharing the Vibe. Sharing the Vibe covers topics in holistic health, wellness and spiritual connection. She had the idea of creating a podcast because she wanted to share the information that she's acquired during her own personal development journey with the wider community. Over the past 20 years she's met loads of wonderful practitioners, experienced various complementary therapies, used different personal growth tools and tried many products that have helped her.

'I want people to know that there are different options to achieve good physical and emotional health and that one approach may particularly resonate with them at a particular time in their lives. I also want to introduce some amazing practitioners and their stories about why they do what they do. I'm always fascinated to know how someone got into a particular therapy and how their careers have developed.'

Gloria became involved in the MOMM project as a result of interviewing Sue Cooper who described her vision of holding mass meditation events across the UK in May 2019 (episode 8).  Sue inspired Gloria to want to co-create an event in Leeds.

‘I’ve always wanted to connect with more people who work in the holistic community in Leeds and find a way for us to work together. I know that in joining forces we can create and achieve so much more. The MOMM project is the perfect way to do this and to give something back to the wonderful city of Leeds!’

The second series of Sharing the Vibe will be published starting in May 2019 and will feature more round table discussions on important emotional health topics. To listen to the first series please visit or download the episodes from your favourite podcast provider including iTunes.

h.u.g.s, a space for alternative therapies & community in Crete Island, Greece

maria g.jpg

The way in life takes value from our will and consent, evolving our individual inner state by bringing into harmony the visible with our invisible pieces, our material and intangible characteristics, in order to evolve through love.

h.u.g.s was created and inspired in order to enlighten the process of our personal harmonisation by removing "signs" that separate and distract. A place where we can come together in unity.

Interaction and participation in the process of personal transformation, weakening traumatic feelings, training in more functional behaviours and overthrowing unnecessary attitudes to the service of love and social harmony is one of the positive results of h.u.g.s.

Targeting and visioning h.u.g.s does not restrict itself to mind or thought, it opens up heart and insight.

We embrace encourage, inspire human thoughts, ideas and creative minds and thinking. Discovering the intelligence of the universe we detect our spiritual wisdom, love and the creation of a bright future for all.

h.u.g.s accommodates alternative therapies in a group or individual context on a daily basis. We have a well-designed space for group seminars and lectures. Τhe space can be transformed appropriately for small concerts and small theatrical performances. The rest of the room is operated daily as a focal point. Books and works of art are available in the field.

The positive and gentle heart of our services are part of the values we represent.

h.u.g.s is located in Heraklion City, Crete island in Greece, we are thrilled to be part of the MOMM journey and are honoured to be holding a Global MOMM on Sunday 12th May.

The Dutch Boy calls for coherence in MetobeWe.

My story as a Dutch Boy goes back to 1951 being born in the Netherlands, migrating to Canada in 1952, heading back to the Dutch country in 1960. In these 8 years moved about every year to a new home following the money. A youngster doesn’t care and gets used to it. New environment and new friends come and go.

The time back in the birth country is kind of steady. 2 places to get to be adult and married. Children and now grandchild married over 45 years in a healthy and heartwarming home.

The rush in life exists in work and personal development. Bang and realizing life is more than work became the entrance to HeartMath 15 years ago. I met Robert Erdbrink for a brief talk at Schiphol where he was heading to Hungary to coach somebody. I didn’t need the HeartMath work to make a better living is what he told me hearing my story. But I needed something else in life that continued to stay burning from that day on.

HeartMath offered a funding to being more resilient. The fellow coaches on the way have opportunities to see new approaches. And the Institute of HeartMath changed in the HeartMath Institute adding heart to the world,

Change is a strange friend as it doesn’t follow the brainway and get it’s form in the heart of matters.

My change being legally retired from working makes the urge to step into the future more impactful.

To quote Waldman in NeuroWisdom ‘the most people are able to invest in them selves is not more than a minute in an hour’.

So how do we get all these terrific instruments, tools, techniques working for all layers of people needing it more and more?

HeartMath offers a view that is outstanding in my opinion. The stepping stones from personal to social coherence (and global too) will be a HeartMath solution.

The global coherence app was introduced recently. I got in the train to create a group: MetobeWe.

Now we have a team (11 members) and had a few events in the app.

We have developed a protocol with headlines using the power protocol of Lynne McTaggert in the power of Eight. HeartMath tools as heartbased breathing, shift and lift and heart lock-in, self-compassion and loving kindness and the healing power of ho’oponopono makes a session complete in MetobeWe in a short period of 10-15 minutes.

We will follow the stepping stones into social coherence starting on May 12 with MOMM.

My business will include MetobeWe. Follow us!
To join the MetobeWe group, use access code SoftFlower41.

Paul van Rooijen will be hosting a global MOMM in Holland.

How Discovering the Soul Awakening Method Changed My Life And Can Change Yours too

If you are feeling out of alignment, seeking a deeper purpose, you need to know that you are not alone. I have been there. Having overcome some of the most painful challenges in my life through learning and self improvement, I made it my personal mission to help other women do the same, using my Soul Awakening Method (c). Through my personal journey, I learned about how anyone can turn negative experiences into a positive, successful, and abundant life. Learn more about my transformation below to understand more.

Your Past Should Not Define Your Future

Statistically, for people like me, the odds of achieving any kind of success are pretty slim. I was taken from my natural mother at 2 weeks old and placed in an institution. I was later adopted, then placed back into care at age 11. I was the definition of a ‘wild child’, cutting school, back chatting, smoking, going missing for days – I just didn’t want to go home.

Looking back, I had been adopted into a good family, and part of me wishes I had realised it then. I don’t remember much about the time I spent in care, not even the name of the kids I hung out with, we were lost, vulnerable and broken. There was one defining conversation with an older member of staff and unbeknown to me it would later would later save my life. Seven small words that had no meaning at the time, but planted that was to develop over me life, You can move mountains with your mind.’ I had no idea what she meant at the time, but over the years I have learnt more about the power of the soul and mind.

During my teenage years, I got placed back to my natural birth father’s family, and this is when things went from bad to worse. He was not the perfect father by any sense of imagination. I had to fend for myself most of the time, had no parental support, not to mention that I was being used by my father for a number of illegal activities to feed his Heroin addiction. As every child, I wanted to feel loved and wanted, but I was just a tool and felt disposable.

I was lucky to return to my adoptive family in my late teens and get my life back on track. The love and support they offered was amazing; they allowed me to forge my own path and supported me every step of the way.

Seeking fulfillment  – or trying to escape my past – I decided to move to Spain in my 20s.

It was a time that completely changed me. However, what had started as a dream come true soon fell apart. One evening I found myself sat on the top of a cliff overlooking the sea, asking myself: what if I jumped?

Who would miss me?

Why would anyone care?

Would anyone even notice if I was gone?

I felt that old feeling back again, that deep, deep sense of loneliness, abandonment and worthlessness. As I watched the Sun set i felt a sense of connection with the earth and the sun and I didn’t feel so alone. I felt connected and I felt a sense of empowerment. Why I didn’t jump into the depths of the Mediterranean, I still don’t know for definite, but I know one thing for sure, I was meant for greater things. So are you.

When I returned to the UK, I had a plan. I knew that deep inside I had a purpose I had decided to take control of my life and that I was here for a reason, I wasn’t quite sure what that purpose was but I knew that profound experience on the top of the cliff  was a guided message for me to fulfill the reason I was here and had experienced so much pain and rejection.

In my early 20s, I built a hugely financially successful business for myself and reaped the material rewards, but I still felt lost, empty and unable to manage a deep fear of my own vulnerability. I masked this well and came across as someone extremely confident, someone who had it all.

My Personal Struggles

By my late 20s, I had my first child, Marcus whom I describe as the key that unlocked my caged heart. It was painful and post-natal depression caused me to face my demons and my deep insecurities head on. A new mum, I suffered in silence with thoughts of my own abandonment that raced through my head. Looking at my perfect baby, I felt he deserved better than me, that I was sure to let him down and be a failure to him. I felt totally unloveable and unable to let love in. Thoughts of leaving plagued my mind, I felt like an imposter, any former identity of myself was built on sand and was sinking fast.

My experience of transformation came with the dark knight of the soul as I commenced on a challenging road to finding my true self. Everything that I had built or worked for was destroyed along with my marriage and business. I say the path was dark, because all my passion for healing, angels, spirituality got thrown out of the window as I shut out the world for several years,  just about surviving. I could best describe the experience like climbing out of a dark hole one fingernail at a time. I had two options; sit and wallow and continue on a downward spiral or see this as an opportunity to recreate my life. I decided on the latter.

Your Soul Has the Ability to Heal

My life was changed forever after this experience and I worked hard on my self development, seeing myself as my own research project! I had to face the story I was telling myself of self hate, worthlessness and rejection. I had to stop rejecting me and love. It took a long time, but eventually I began to like, love, accept and value the person I truly was, something I had never done before, and maybe never would have, unless this going through this journey.

In my early 30s, I discovered that there was so much more to life than what you are taught at school. I learnt more and more about spirituality and discovered that we are all spiritual beings.I had a profound life changing experience during a Reiki session when I was pregnant and – although I had had quite a few out of body and paranormal experiences in my childhood – this confirmed to me we are not just our physical body. This experience set me off on a dedicated path to understand the body, mind and spirit. I studied a variety of different spiritual techniques over the years; from Reiki, E.F.T to Hypnotherapy I even studied Bio Medicine, Naturopathy & Acupuncture and followed my passion to help myself and others. This is when the Soul Awakening Method really began.

Changing Your Future and Shifting Your Focus

Sometimes we have to go through painful experiences to discover our true calling and to cultivate the strengths needed to continue in the face of adversity. Life does not stop challenging you to dig deeper.  This happened to me when I reached the age of 40.

At 40, I was a newly single mum, my one to one coaching business was thriving and I found myself in a place of having to juggle everything on my own. It was all overwhelming and I was at a scary place. Looking back over my life, nothing was ordinary, and I’d lived a thousand different lives in those 40 years, but despite that feeling of panic and fear in the pit of my stomach I knew I had more to give when I held my new baby girl in my arms. It was a sign for a new beginning.

I made it my life’s mission to learn how to undo learnt behaviours and thought patterns that hold us back. I wanted to share my compassion with the world, and decided to create the Soul Awakening Academy.

Rewrite Your Story with the Soul Awakening Academy

I truly believe that there’s no greater journey in life than discovering your true potential and becoming the person you were always meant to be. Your gifts and talents are usually a result of your scars. The pain you go through can be used to help other people as it cultivates compassion, empathy and respect for the other person.

I know first-hand exactly how powerful the mind is, how it can work against you as much as for you, what self-limiting thoughts are, and what they can do to you. I’ve studied what defensive layers are and how to dissolve them by connecting to your true essence and light, and this is why –  many years later – I am able to help people along their own journey of self-discovery.

“Your soul has a destiny and you are ready to begin this journey that will bring you boundless happiness, real inner peace and the ability to reach that potential in others.”

As an artist, writer and channel for the angelic realms, Alison has been a regular supporter of The Monastery since its days as a pile of rubble and scaffolding.  Each month, Alison offers FREE meditation sessions, in the Private Chapel, often introducing one of her angels, as a guide and inspiration during the session.

The full story of Alison’s journey with the angels can be discovered in her book “According to my angels” which shares the nuts and bolts of what proved to be a life changing experience and a lifetimes undertaking. Initially armed only with blind ignorance, Alison learned all she needed to directly from her source; the angels. It is to them she looks and in them she trusts as she creates her work on their behalf as “Angels Advocate”.

Although Alison works independently, at her own Studio in Nottingham, she is a keen collaborator when she meets those whose work resonates with her own, and so today, Alison is delivering a very special meditation. . . in collaboration.

This exquisite dialogue between human and bee is brought to the Monastery today by Alison as a specially adapted meditation using “BLUE LULLABY”, a subsequent single released following the One album with vocals by Camille Christel. Spotlight on Gurpreet Kaur

Gurpreet Kaur, Founder Intuitive Knowledge

Gurpreet Kaur, Founder Intuitive Knowledge

By age 31 I had several miscarriages which led to a hysterectomy and the depression that I had carried with me since I was a teenager swallowed me up further still as I began spiralling further out of control.

To “get away from it all” in the Summer of 2015 I decided to go to America for a couple of months and it was whilst I was out there in this beautiful place, with amazing people having awesome experiences I knew I should be happier than I was. I couldn’t shake the sadness or escape the inner dialogue, I was still sad deep down. I realised that the answer to my grief, sadness and depression wasn’t in pills, running away or making bad decisions and felt a little hopeless as didn’t know where to go next.

Upon returning from the States I spoke with my brother and told him I didn’t feel like I could do this life thing much longer. He gave me the most life changing pieces of advice; to look at my life through the eyes of gratitude and to begin meditating. This conversation happened on the 12th September 2015 and by the 1st October I was ready to stop the pills, and so I did.

A steady practice of meditation, reading, studying and getting reconnected with the teachings of the East helped lift me out of the lengthy and taxing withdrawal. It has been the most stunning journey of self awareness. I have gone from complete sorrow to pure joy and purpose, happiness and love. I am so grateful for every single thing that brought me to this point because it has resulted in the ignition of a purpose far beyond myself, now I just want people to know that if I can do it, they can too.

I have founded Intuitive Knowledge to help awaken people to the power that lays dormant within them, share with them the tools of our magnificent minds and how we can use them to live more happier and fulfilled lives.

Meditation has been an essential component of my recovery, especially during the withdrawal process and now to keep life in beautiful harmony.

Sharing its importance by being a part of an event with MOMM is a huge honour.

The HeartMath mission

The mission of the HeartMath Institute is to help people bring their physical, mental and emotional systems into balanced alignment with their heart’s intuitive guidance. This unfolds the path for becoming heart-empowered individuals who choose the way of love, which they demonstrate through compassionate care for the well-being of themselves, others and Planet Earth.

Activate the heart of humanity

HeartMath Institute is committed to helping activate the heart of humanity. They believe that when they align and connect their hearts and minds and connect with others, that we awaken the higher mental, emotional and spiritual capacities that frequently lie dormant. HMI aspires to always conduct their operations with passion, compassion and a heartfelt desire to transform lives. This is in keeping with their desire to help usher in an era of ever-expanding heart intelligence.

HeartMath’s research, training and technologies are aimed at guiding all of humanity toward realization of its full potential and to rely on the qualities of the heart in its role as caretaker of future generations and our planet.

About HeartMath Institute

Since 1991, when Doc Childre founded the nonprofit HeartMath Institute, their vision has been to provide tools that connect us with “the heart of who we truly are.” Today HeartMath serves people of all ages and walks of life around the world in their homes, classrooms and communities – so they can live healthier, happier and more fulfilling lives.

They research and develop reliable, scientifically based tools that bridge the connection between heart and mind and deepen people’s connection with the hearts of others. This empowers people to greatly reduce stress, increase resilience and unlock their natural intuitive guidance for making better choices.

HMI’s simple, user-friendly mental and emotional self-regulation tools and techniques provide benefits in the moment and over sustained periods. They enable people everywhere to break through to greater levels of personal balance, creativity, intuitive insight and fulfilment. Their research has formed the foundation for training and education programs worldwide among diverse cultures.

HeartMath Vision

A global shift is under way and people are sensing it involves a deeper connection with their heart. This desire for more heart connection is a growing movement, one that people are drawn to by a nudge from their own intuition or conscience to listen to their hearts more and to connect with their inner guidance. The voice or feelings of the heart have been referred to in writings and teachings throughout the millennia. HeartMath exists to help individuals, organizations, and the global community incorporate the heart’s intelligence into their day-to-day experience of life.

Whether people mention speaking from the heart, connecting with the heart, or following the heart, there is an increased energetic awareness of the importance of the heart’s intelligent input in life’s discernments and choices. It’s being experienced by millions who are coming into expanded global awareness and feel an inner need for the deeper resonance and nurturing of spirit that comes from heart-based connections. These connections can be between a person’s own heart and mind, or between people trying to build community through cooperative interaction.

HeartMath’s commitment is to help make these critical couplings possible. As these connections are established, the world we live in will be transformed. Coherent, heart-centered interactions will generate a higher vibrational consciousness field globally, increasing individual, social and global coherence and resonance. This will support co-creative alliances and draw in new intuitive solutions to our personal and global challenges.

HeartMath shows us a way to remake our world. It provides tools to connect with our inner guidance and technologies to help us be still enough to listen. Its research shows us how we can be empowered to become masters of ourselves and the quality of our future. Together, the tools, technologies and research enable us to realise our full potential as individuals and as a species to serve as caretakers for our planet and generations to come.

The MOMM vision of health at the individual, social and global levels is a natural fit for HeartMath’s own vision and beliefs about the practical ways we can create more peace, fairness, health and happiness in the world.

She does not promise miracle cures, but understands the role of the power of the mind in creating, managing and, where possible, healing chronic illness. Inspired by a life changing visit to India in 2018 Sian now gives public talks and runs mindfulness workshops and courses in Sheffield with a particular purpose in mind...

It isn’t every day that one becomes involved in a spontaneous Bollywood style dance routine in an all girls school, but that is just what happened when I visited the Triratna Buddhist Community Project in Nagpur, India on pilgrimage with a group of UK Buddhists.

The practices which we term Mindfulness here in the West originated in India almost 3000 years ago and play a vital role in the spiritual practices which developed there. Despite being one of the world’s great religions, Buddhism was all but wiped out in its native country for over a 1000 years. It has only recently experienced a revival on the subcontinent thanks to 19th century colonial archeological studies and more recently by the work of Dr Bimrao Ambedkar. Ambedkar was born in 1891 into a large, untouchable (dalit) caste family in Madhya Pradesh. Among many other restrictions dalits cannot attend schools, must live in separate communities subsisting on the detritus from the higher castes and may only work at the most menial of tasks. Yet despite the strictures of his caste, Ambedkar was sponsored to receive an education and, proving himself highly gifted, trained as a lawyer in the US and Europe. When he returned to India his caste designation prevented him from working in any law firm so he turned to political activism. Eventually he became part of the Indian Parliament and was the architect of the Indian Constitution.

Understanding at first hand the oppression of the dalit community, Ambedkar sought a way to improve the lot of his people. Since caste is an ancient, religiously ordained hierarchy, he reasoned that only a change of religion would suffice to free the dalit mindset from its enslavement. On 14 October 1956, 400.000 of the poorest, most degraded people in India dressed in white and gathered in Deekshbhumi park in Nagpur. That night, in front of them all, Ambedkar formally converted to Buddhism, he then turned and led his audience in the vows that set them on a path that would change their lives forever. He died six weeks later.

The population of India today is 1.2bn people of which 200m are considered dalit, despite caste being illegal, with all the oppression and cruelty that designation implies.

However, there are now over 70m practising Buddhists throughout India, with a large concentration living in Nagpur. And that’s where I came to meet those delightful young women. They all came from families living in the red light district and appalling poverty. If they stayed they would be condemned to being sold into slavery or prostitution or deliberately crippled for begging. In the girl’s hostel project they are educated, taught English (essential for white collar work in India) and IT, have access to health care and most importantly given self-respect, dignity and the chance of a decent life. The night we visited over a hundred girls ranging in age from five to fifteen greeted us with songs and a dance display. We asked if they would teach us a few moves and before we knew it a Bollywood party exploded with everyone dancing wildly well into the night.

I left a large part of my heart with those girls and the wider ex-dalit community in Nagpur, and at their invitation, I will be returning to work with them. As well as creating connections between Western and Indian Buddhists as equals I would be supporting the development of their English and Speaking Confidence skills (they have a much harder time teaching me Marathi!).

Everything that I earn through speaking engagements and mindfulness workshops here in the UK, like the MoMM event in Sheffield May 11th will enable me to do that work.

MOMM & HeartMath - Global Coherence technology

Screenshot 2019-03-20 at 14.43.51.png

MOMM would like to tell the stories behind our strategic partnerships so we asked Gavin Andrews, Managing Director of HeartMath UK+IRL to share the story behind the collaboration between MOMM and HeartMath…

“As soon as Sue and Irfan told me about their plans for MOMM I knew that HeartMath had to be involved. Their vision and the way they view health at the individual, social and global levels fits perfectly with our own vision and our beliefs about the practical ways we can create more peace, fairness, health and happiness in the world.

As a result, the HeartMath Institute and HeartMath UK+IRL have joined MOMM in their mission and we are excited to be supporting MOMM in a number of ways.

Firstly, we are of course, promoting the UK and Global MOMM events to our networks of friends, customers and partners worldwide. Everyone we speak to about MOMM gets very enthusiastic and wants to be involved. There’s definitely a powerful and attractive energy around MOMM’s vision which is resonating with people. I think that’s a sign of the times.

Secondly, we’re providing some assistance and resource to the MOMM team. We’re 100% behind what MOMM is seeking to achieve and as a result HeartMath UK+IRL is providing one of our team to assist with the MOMM programme.

The third and most exciting way we’ll be supporting MOMM is by providing our new Global Coherence app to everyone who is taking part. The Global Coherence app has been developed by our US non-profit, the HeartMath Institute and it’s going to enable us to measure participation.

At the simplest level the app will tell us exactly how many people are participating in the meditations. We’ll have an overall figure and also numbers at the national level. During the meditation itself, every single participant will be visible as an illuminated point on a global map. If you’ve ever seen those amazing pictures of the earth from space where you can see the bright lights emitted by urban areas, then that’s similar to what we’ll be able to see on the app. We’ll be able to zoom in to different areas within each continent and nation to see where people are, and we’ll know that they are joining in.

And it gets even better. We’ll even be able to measure, objectively, the combined power of people’s meditation.

There are thousands of people across the world who use HeartMath’s Heart Coherence biofeedback technologies and we’re encouraging as many as them as possible to participate. In simple terms coherence is an optimal state of inner balance – both physical and mental. That’s why we call our gadget Inner Balance! The Inner Balances measure coherence using heart rhythm (heart rate variability) data. When people become coherent their heart rhythms go into a repeating pattern which appears as a sinusoidal waveform.

So, during the meditation, as people using an Inner Balance meditate, their individual level of coherence will be monitored, in real time, and then their data will be combined with everyone else’s who is using a sensor. What this means is that we will be able to see the development of the combined level of coherence as the meditation progresses.

There has never, ever been anything like this on this scale. We are so excited and intrigued to see what the data reveals. What will be the impact of thousands of people meditating at the same time? What will happen to the collective coherence of these people? Our experiment is seeking to measure what happens to people’s physiology as they meditate. We don’t know what our experiment will bring to light, but it will be fun to find out.”

More details to follow on how to download and utilise the app for your MOMM event…

Spotlight on Gavin Andrews & HeartMath

Gavin Andrews is the Managing Director of HeartMath® UK and Ireland.

HeartMath is a simple approach to transforming your stress, boosting your resilience and living your life with more health, more happiness and, most importantly, more heart.

It is a system of fast, easy and powerful self-awareness and self-regulation techniques which are easy to learn and designed to be used “in-the-moment”, whatever the situation; meaning that you can bring your best-self to your personal and professional lives.

And what makes HeartMath unique is that you can practise the techniques using Heart Coherence Biofeedback technology. The technology gives you real-time insight into your emotional, mental and physical state and helps you develop the ability to self-regulate emotions, thoughts and behaviours. In simple terms it’s a bit like mindfulness (or heartfulness!) blended with positive psychology while using a gadget like a FitBit for the emotions!

Gavin has a background as a Consultant, Coach, Trainer and University Lecturer specialising in Leadership Development and Performance. He began personally practicing HeartMath 13 years ago and quickly fell in love with the simplicity, effectiveness and health benefits. He then introduced HeartMath into his professional work and became the MD of HeartMath UK+IRL in 2012. He runs the business and HeartMath’s UK and Ireland Coach Certification Programmes and also delivers HeartMath training into organisations. He has a deep interest in authenticity, self-leadership, living from the heart and integrated approaches to wellbeing, resilience and high performance. He holds an MBA and Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education.

Who can hold a MOMM?

…the simple answer is anyone and everyone!

We have had a number of queries about hosting and running a MOMM during our May event weekend. Below is a simple guide on the type of event you can hold. We will be releasing details of our existing locations very soon which range from smaller more intimate settings to larger public events, and everything in-between.

Moments of mass mindfulness (MOMM) is a meditation movement for everyone. We are raising awareness of, and co-creating in community, a model that fully embraces the true definition of health as both an Art and a Science. At the heart of it all, we’re focused on peace, building community, connection, collaboration and to enhance personal wellbeing.

Meditate on your own in the comfort of your home or chose a safe space in nature.

Friends & Family

Gather your family and close friends and meditate together at home, in a local green space, or on your street!

Organise a group of peers, colleagues or acquaintances, with a shared profession or interest.

Bring together a group of individuals in an informal group setting, at a larger venue.

Hire a larger venue to bring members of the public and local communities together in mass meditation e.g a marquee or exhibition space.
